Leading with Healthy Power

Healthy power is power (the ability to know what matters to us and create the results that matter) that results in more power and wellbeing for all the people, communities, organisations, and ecosystems involved. This stands in contrast to toxic power, which depletes the power and/or wellbeing of some or all participants, often including the person or group exercising it.

Nathaniel Whitestone has spent his entire adult life creating ecovillage networks, coaching and funding ethical leaders, bringing Sociocracy to new countries, supporting cooperatives... basically, supporting the global transition from toxic ways of being powerful toward a world where healthy power is the norm.

The Leading with Healthy Power programme has four components. Nathaniel will be your primary contact, conducting workshops and guiding you through online resources. Learning will be multidisciplinary, spanning sociocratic organising (from the neighbourhood to national scale networks), community development, cooperative ownership, relationships, and more. You will also be connected to other movement mentors, for instance through monthly meetings with Nathaniel and Joseph Rathinam (lead trainer for the Neighborocracy movement in India) and others, and be pointed to related training offerings. Finally, you will be able to learn from and teach peers and mentors, through the CTRL Shift Community of Practice.  See full details below.

Acquire the skills and resources that make it possible to change the world for the better, starting in your own neighbourhood, workplace, and networks. Become eligible for certification as a SONEC Facilitator. Join us in building a world that works for everyone.

Online learning resources

Hundreds of pages of text and dozens of hours of video in one place, covering the practice of Sociocracy, the development of SONECs/Neighbourhood Parliaments, and the inner skills of facilitation and consulting.

Office hours with mentors

Join professionals, activists, and leaders who have built movements and changed the world in our monthly office hours. On the first Tuesday of every month from 11-12.30pm (UK),  Nathaniel Whitestone and Joseph Rathinam are joined by other mentors to share their expertise on an often-requested topic, and then we have a warm and deep conversation in which participants are welcome to bring their challenges for advice and coaching from mentors and peers.

Our partners include John Buck (a leader in the sociocracy movement),  David Crean (embodied leadership), Barbara Strauch (European sociocracy), Pete Burden (healthy power), and more. Check out our calendar to find out what topic is upcoming.

Attending one session (as a stand-alone outside the Leading with Healthy Power course bundle) costs £30.00 GBP, but you can joint your first session for free!

Write to cdowneyoliveira@gmail.com to book your spot.

Peer community of practice

The CTRL Shift Community of Practice is a place that people leading Holistic Community Development in their area can come together to share their struggles and triumphs, to learn from one another, and to find collaborators on projects, fundraising, and anything else that matters. We meet from 10-12pm (UK time) on the last Thursday of every month. Check out recordings of of our COP sessions here.

In-depth training with a breadth of mentors

Our partners include world class experts, best-selling authors, and practitioners with decades of experience. These include experts in cooperative ways of owning things together, sociocratic ways of (self)organising, the Internal Family Systems model of internal and relational transformation, Asset Based Community Development and Collective Impact Networks. We can connect you to training and coaching in every area you need to be able to lead your community, workplace, networks, and yourself, with healthy power. Our calendar shows some of our partner trainings. There are discounts available for some of these courses for those on the LHP programme, such as the sociocracy training offered by Governance Alive.
